My Review:
I was expecting a very humorous book when I first heard about this! But I highly disappointed. This book didn’t carry it well what it supposed to say. For once there is no purpose/concept on this book. It’s a life story of Kunal Nayyar from his childhood to his wedding. I couldn’t find anything aspiring, impressive, or even humourous(Other than one scene)! maybe for his close friends& parents it may be appealing! Being a South Indian and from a middle-class family, I couldn’t relate with any of his childhood memories to cherish/feel nostalgic. And his life in America as a student mostly consist of girls & how to impress them! His struggles as an international student portion were neither funny nor serious and so didn’t make any impact. I loved the final wedding chapters they were hilarious and love to read about the ceremony! otherwise, this book could do much better in every aspect!
Thoughts while reading:
- The memories of his dad and childhood were good to read but nothing special about them.
- The way he struggled as an international student gave a very little glimpse of student life.As I told above its neither humorous nor serious!
- His acting aspirations definitely made us understood the real pain behind the career but didn’t make much impact.
- The final wedding chapter was wonderful. I laughed out loud ( that’s the only time throughout the book) at the sword thing it’s really hilarious I could only imagine the seriousness in Kunal’s tone and the deep understanding face of Jason’s 🤣
- It didn’t define the real Indian middle-class life nor about its rich culture. If you hope to find “Life in India as a kid ” through this book please spare! this isn’t the one! it’s just a boring story of Kunal Nayyar .kind of his journal that records his life’s important happenings!

Aw how sad is that! I’d have thought this would be something funny and inspiring.

Aw, that’s a shame it wasn’t that good! I could see myself picking it up just based on the author – biographies can be like that.
